Merits Of Buying the GE MWF Filter

By Stephanie Roese

Convenience is key to the way we live our lives this day and age. We are constantly looking to cut corners wherever we can to make our lives easier and more manageable. One way we can accomplish this, is by having our water cooled and filtered by our refrigerator. If you own this type of refrigerator, you understand what I am saying. There is no longer a need to buy bottled h20 anymore and you don't have to settle for tap water anymore, either.

This system requires the appliance to be plumbed in to the main water supply and these fridges have a built-in filtration unit which is why the water tastes so good. There may be a small amount of thought and effort required when first installing your refrigerator, but the benefits of having it far outweigh any disadvantages.

Almost all brands of fridges including Kenmore, Hotpoint and GE, use the GE MWF filter, which effectively removes most of the chemical. Be assured that at least 96% of chlorine, asbestos, particulates and lead and 93% of mercury, and sediment such as rust and dirt plus a variety of other assorted chemicals are removed. It makes you feel better knowing that these harmful ingredients are removed and it certainly tastes better without them. The filter has a .5 Micron Rating. The cool thing about this filter is leaves in the "good stuff," such as fluoride but removes the bad stuff. Having fluoride in your water aids in keeping your teeth strong. It is very versatile and capable of meeting all the demands of family usage.

The flow rate of the The GE MWF filter is .5 gallons per minute. This is fast enough to cope with filling a pot for cooking, rice, pasta etc, or for that quick refreshing glass of cool water. It is also a very small, compact filter, so it will take up very little valuable space in your fridge. If you have a refrigerator that doesn't use this filter, and you want to use this one, you may be able to purchase an adapter to make it fit.

As with any type of filter, the cartridge of the GE MWF will need to be replaced periodically. The recommended interval is approximately six months, or every three hundred gallons, This is a little subjective, depending on the variety and level of contaminants in your water supply. It is super easy to install and/or remove. You need no tools whatsoever to do this and it takes a matter of seconds to do. Whilst it can be tempting to wait for longer periods before replacing it, it is better to play it safe as old cartridges can leak the very substances they removed back into the filtered water if left too long.

There are filters that have been made as "comparable" to the GE MWF filter, but you may be risking your water quality by using them. Do your research to ensure that they adhere to the same standards as the GE filter. My recommendation is that you shop for the GE MWF filter online as there are a number of places selling the filter. Typically, when there are a lot of places selling something, the competition is fierce, which makes it a buyer's market. If you haven't begun to do so yet, I suggest you familiarize yourself with searching on the Internet for goods and services as you will be able to shop for the very best price with the least amount of effort. Cut down on unnecessary time and extra money being spent driving around town to shop for your goods.
