Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Athena Hunter

We all know that the most effective foods for our diet plans are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These are the food items which will give us the energy and protein we need. They help our bodies remain balanced without infusing a bunch of calories that we have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize though that a number of the diet foods you've been eating may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They may be preventing you from slimming down altogether! Here are several foods that you might be consuming which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks may not be helping you at all. You've most likely been told that if you wish to help your body renew itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most doctors will tell you, though, that if your exercise routine isn't going to go over ninety minutes then you really should be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks could totally challenge your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Instead, look at drinking some chocolate milk. The suscrose in the chocolate will help your muscles start to mend and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip your protein shakes. Lots of people believe that protein shakes can be used instead of meals and to curb cravings between meals. What you will be actually doing, particularly if the remainder of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. Converse to common belief, protein isn't stored as muscular fiber, it is really stored as fat. If you've already eaten your daily allotment of protein that day, your body will just keep the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't allow you to drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't really healthful at all. It's generally thought that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has way too many preservatives and sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This might be especially problematic if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of purchasing the pre-packaged stuff, you should instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these options but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a wide range of things that we imagine will help us shed pounds like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask a medical expert which ingredients are right for you and then have those. If you are cautious about what exactly you eat and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
